Life Stages That Need Higher Priority

All of us have stages in our life that are given high priority. Whether it’s college, marriage, or children, our focus is more narrowed than at other times and we find ourselves involved almost to the exclusion of everything else.

Marriage. Getting married is a huge decision, one that takes planning and preparation. Often, we forget about the emotional changes we’ll be making in favor of the wedding dress, or we are worried about sharing our new space, instead of just sitting down and talking about it. When it comes to getting married, the wedding might be the most beautiful thing this side of the Caribbean, but we can’t forget what living with our spouse actually means. Conversation is key.

College. When it comes to attending school, we soon realize the choice takes money and time. It isn’t easy to make the time to travel to your local college or university. It may not be possible to schedule your day around the classes offered, and you may find that the cost far outweighs the reward. For these reasons, you may decide on an online college experience at your university of choice.

Children. Having a baby takes money and maturity. It isn’t easy getting up in the middle of the night to nurse a sick child when you need the sleep. No one really knows how to take care of a child until they have one, but quick understanding comes if the parents are wise enough to listen to parents and friends who’ve already had children.

Life stages are important in any life, and it’s important to remember to give them the high priority they deserve.

Stages of Labor and Delivery

Every woman in unique and so is her labor and delivery. In fact, each labor can be different even in the same woman. Some women experience labor that is quick and easy and over in a matter of a few short hours. However, some labors are longer and harder, testing a woman’s endurance. Most labors, however, have three distinct stages.

During the early part of stage one of labor your cervix will begin to dilate. You may only feel some slight pressure and/or discomfort. In fact, many women do not even know they are in labor until they have already been in labor for many hours, sometimes days. Soon, however, you will begin to notice a very definite contraction pattern. Your cervix will continue to dilate up to ten centimeters. Your labor will become very obvious now and your contractions will be coming much closer together. In fact, towards the end of this stage it may begin to feel as though the contractions never let up.

Stage two is when you will actually deliver your baby. This stage can take a few minutes or several hours. You will now be encouraged to push during every contraction to speed up the process and bring your baby into the world! First-time moms and women who have had an epidural generally experience a longer second stage of labor.

You will experience a great sense of relief and joy once your baby is delivered. However, you are not done yet! You are now entering the third stage of labor which involves the delivery of the placenta. The placenta is delivered in an average of five to ten minutes but can take up to half an hour.

Pregnant? Make Your Wedding Day a Beautiful Success!

Today, a beautiful and pregnant bride is not unusual.

Once engagement rings have been exchanged, the wedding day becomes supreme. Because the wedding day is such an important event for the bride, if she is also pregnant, specific items must be handled well to guarantee this day can be as perfect as possible.

The most important area to consider is the date; this will affect all other decisions. Whether the bride is in her first trimester or her last decides everything from dress to shoes to honeymoon.

So Number One: select your date carefully.

Number Two: the bridal dress.

Once you have selected your date, then it will be easier to plan for a beautiful bridal gown. The empire waistline is always in fashion and recently has made an even bigger comeback, making this choice a winner. The style is beautiful and also convenient for the bride as it should fit her well and look stunning, no matter when the wedding date is set.

Whatever style is decided, it is best to stick to the KISS principle as exaggerated ruffles, lace, etc. will also exaggerate an increase in the waistline. Whether buying off-the-rack or having your dress specially made, make sure that it will be comfortable AND beautiful when the great day actually arrives.

Number Three, one that most do not consider: the bridal shoes.

Even if the bride is not pregnant, this choice is usually based on beauty, not comfort. Realize that you will be standing most of the time. Make sure that comfort also goes with beauty. You might consider two pairs of shoes, one for the wedding and one for the reception.

Number Four: the honeymoon. If the bride is in her last trimester, a trip to the Bahamas may have to wait.

Be aware that carefully planning can make or break your special day. So plan carefully for a incredible experience. And, above all, enjoy!

Treat Your Wife to Something Special This Upcoming Mother’s Day

As they say, Mother’s Day comes but once a year. For many women, as a holiday, Mother’s Day is just as important as an anniversary or a birthday. In other words, for husbands and fathers, circle Mother’s Day with a big red marker.

On Mother’s Day, it’s important to spoil a mother. Being a mom is hard work, and if it were not for the holiday, it would seem relatively thankless, too. This is why giving a gift on Mother’s Day is so important. Not sure where to start? Consider the following few options:

  • Flowers are a guaranteed win. Wives, girlfriends, and mothers always appreciate a full-bodied bouquet. Pay attention to what kind of flower your woman likes and pick a bouquet hosting that flower as its central focus. Additionally, a small box of chocolates along with some flowers never hurt anyone.
  • Have a baby? Surprise mom by dressing him or her up. Look around for some cute baby costumes and pick something that will keep junior swaddled and make mom happy. This could be as simple as a clever bib or a funny onesie that will help mom notice how much you care.
  • Some women may be harder to read and wouldn’t be offended if you gave them a thoughtful card with a gift card to their favorite store. Buy a card, write something nice, and give her money to spend on a fun shopping trip.
  • Consider a spa or massage certificate. No matter the holiday, everyone appreciates a free massage, manicure, or pedicure (or all three). Offer to watch the kids on an afternoon and give that special mother in your life a chance to relax and pamper herself, cost-free.

Aside from doing all of these things, offer to make dinner, too. Mother’s Day is a popular restaurant day, so if you want to avoid the crowds, stay in and treat her to something special — made by you!

Tips For Flying With Your Baby

Are you about to embark on an airplane trip with your baby? Always consider your child’s safety before flying. The first thing you’ll need to consider is a child restraint system, or CRS (sometimes called a car seat). The Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, recommends that you always travel with a CRS during flights due to the possibility of turbulence or emergency landings. In the interest of your child’s safety, it’s best to travel with a CRS instead of keeping your child on your lap.

According to the FAA, babies weighing less than twenty pounds should have a CRS that faces the rear. A child between twenty to forty pounds should have a CRS that faces forward. After fourty pounds, the airplane seat belt can then be used. Remember that harness vests and booster seats are prohibited on airplanes. If your child requires a booster seat at your final destination, you’ll have to check it along with your other baggage.

Measure your car seat or CRS several days before your trip. If it’s less than sixteen inches wide, it will fit in most airplane seating. Many airlines also offer discounted fare for child tickets, so be sure to ask. You cannot use a CRS without a ticket, so your child will need one. Almost all airlines do deliver a discounted fare for children, and many will be as high as fifty percent off the price of a ticket. Don’t forget to ensure your seats will be right next to each other so you can be right next to your child throughout the flight.

Finally, some airlines provide their own CRS for flying children and you will not be allowed to bring your own. You’ll have to check it with the rest of your luggage.

Ask the airline if there are any empty seats on your flight. Many airlines will allow you to strap in your CRS in an empty seat next to yours.

Even More Healthy Foods for New Moms

No matter if you choose to breastfeed your new baby or not, you’ll still need to keep your body in great shape. While you may be overly eager to lose your residual baby weight, you’ll do more for your baby if you stay away from miracle diets and opt for eating a healthy balanced diet instead. These foods are all healthy new mom diet choices according to WebMD. Don’t forget to talk to your doctor to get a more specialized plan according to your body if you’re breastfeeding.

1.) Whole wheat bread.
Throw out the white bread. Not only are you missing out on tons of flavor, but many essential nutrients as well. Whole grain bread contains folic acid, an essential nutrient for your body. Whole grain pasta also contains this necessary ingredient. Whole grain pastas and bread also contain fiber and iron, two other great supplements that your body needs.

2.) Green leafy vegetables.
If you want to lose weight, you’re doing yourself a disservice by not eating green leafy vegetables. While your body needs a BALANCED diet, not a lettuce-only diet, green leafy vegetables have low calorie counts and vitamin A-filled. They also provide calcium and antioxidants. Skip the iceberg lettuce and go with a nice spinach salad instead. Don’t forget about broccoli and other green leafy veggies as well.

3.) Eggs.
Is there a more versatile food than eggs? Cooking, baking, scrambling, poaching, frying, putting into an omelette, fritatta, or quiche–all of these cooking options will give you plenty of vitamin D. If you’re in love with egg white-only recipes, you’ve got to throw them out if you want the Vitamin D. Only the yolk contains that essential nutrient. Certain places also carry DHA-fortified eggs for an even healthier eating option. DHA is a fatty acid that all babies need, so if you’re breast feeding, consider springing for those to keep your own DHA levels high.
